"Success is self inflicted"

I think this is a great quote. We inflict so much upon ourselves and others, why not success.

Have a great afternoon.

This quote was contributed by Denny Pia Kumeroa. Thank you.

Og Mandino said "I will not allow yesterday's success to lull me into today's complacency, for this is the great foundation of failure."

When you're winning it's easy to become complacent, lose your way and set yourself up for failure. To combat this always be vigilant that your success isn't going to your head.

Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonald's said, "Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get."

Kroc was worth a real US$500,000,000 fortune by the time he passed away in 1984 and attributed his success to "luck" brought about by hard work. Even Susan Boyle wasn't an 'overnight' success. She spent years singing and honing her voice. Her hard work paid off when the world heard her sing. Some might call that 'luck'.

Have a great afternoon.

Confucius said, "It does not matter how slowly you go, so long as you do not stop."

Like
the Hare learnt from the Tortoise speed is not always essential to win the race. A friend of mine Lisa Tamati is not the fastest runner in the world but her strength is she never stops. This has enabled to her run non stop for days to cover hundreds of miles. If she stopped she would never get as far. So don't worry about how slow you are going, just don't stop.

Have a great afternoon.

Henry David Thoreau said, "I think we may safely trust a good deal more than we do."

Tomorrow is ANZAC Day and I would like you to think about trust.
We trusted our soldiers to stand up for what we thought was right, and they did.
We trusted our soldiers to make us proud, and they did.
Our soldiers put their trust in their cobbers and it wasn't broken.

Trust is not to be taken lightly and if someone trusts you it is your responsibility not to break that trust.

Have a great afternoon.

Seth Godin said, "Remarkable, something worth making a remark about".

Remarkable is my newest word that I like and it makes me ask the question, what am I doing or what are you doing today that is worth making a remark about?

Have a great afternoon.

Relationships count. They count for more than what we are willing to give them most of the time.

Margaret Mead said, "Having someone wonder where you are when you don't come home at night is a very old human need."

This counts in business to. It's make sense, and is polite, to let people know where you are so they don't worry about you.

Annie Dillard said, "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives."

Is Annie right? Sometimes I think a day of slacking can be productive because you give your brain a rest. This allows the ideas and answers to questions to bubble to the surface and the next day is a blinder. Does one off day mean we will be a slacker for the rest of our lives?

Is this what you think? Leave a comment or discuss on Twitter - @glennedley.

Chungliang Al Huang said, "Many people treat their bodies as if they were rented from Hertz -- something they are using to get around in but nothing they genuinely care about understanding."

Chungliang has hit the nail on the head. Want lots of energy and the oomph to bounce back from mistakes - look after your body like it was a Lamborghini not a Rent a Dent. Understand what your body is and does and you will never be short of energy or inspiration.

Benjamin Franklin said, "Lost time is never found again."

This week I've felt a bit lost. However, I realised that apart from putting a few things off I came up with some answers while my mind meandered.

Sometimes it's good to be lost because you never know what you might find off the beaten track.

Have a great weekend.

There is an Ancient Persian saying, "I had the blues because I had no shoes until upon the street, I met a man who had no feet."

Some days it's nice to just remember how good you've got it.

Stanislaw J. Lec said, "If a man who cannot count finds a four-leaf clover, is he lucky?"

Is he? I don't think so because he wouldn't know it was lucky. Are you missing opportunities because you can't count? That is if you knew more about something would you have more opportunities.

Neil Peart said, "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."

I like that because it makes sense to me. Doing nothing is a decision, you have chosen to do nothing. Making a choice is a power move. It puts you in control. One last thing; make sure what you choose is YOUR choice. How? Take a few seconds to think about it.

Norman Vincent Peale said, "Never react emotionally to criticism. Analyze yourself to determine whether it is justified. If it is, correct yourself. Otherwise, go on about your business."

This is hard for me too. There is something inside that leaps to my defense any time I am criticised. Have you got that something too? Try to keep it in check whenever you are criticised because in that criticism might be a gem you can benefit from.

Raymond Hull said, "He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away."

I have tried to be what others wanted and I have always ended up worn out, sick or even angry. A shadow of myself. Being yourself gives you power, fills you with energy and fills you out (in a good way).

Be yourself. I double dare you.

"Knowledge of any kind ... brings about a change in awareness from where it is possible to create new realities." Deepak Chopra

Does this give me a good excuse for being on Twitter? Reading lots and expanding my world has opened me to information and people I never knew existed. However the ideas for my clients, my business and myself are now fresher, simpler and work.

Find out for yourself here.

"If we would have new knowledge, we must get a whole world of new questions." Susanne K. Langer.

What's a 'new' question you could come up with today that would get you new knowledge?

That quote got me thinking and I trust it did you too. Post your questions below for discussion and maybe the answer.

We are not what we know. We are what we are willing to learn." The Council on Ideas.

I am willing to learn a lot, however, people have told me learning [something new] can distract us from doing. But by reading this email every day you show you are willing to learn something new, from a bit of a distraction, that might make your afternoon a bit better.

I appreciate it and I hope you know a bit more after reading it.

"When we feel stuck, going nowhere, even starting to slip backward, we may actually be backing up to get a running start." Dan Millman.

When I read this quote I can picture a sprinter backing up, setting himself in his blocks, and then launching himself into a sprint.

If you can picture that and imagine your feet locking in (you can do it under your desk now), tensing and then launching, that is a powerful image and one worth holding onto.
